Across the span of a few days, two different syoboons presented to the emergency room. Both suffering from mutism.
One large, and one small.
Both had lost their capacity to talk, and lacked replaceable batteries. So surgery was necessary.
This will mostly focus on the smaller one. The internals are identical, except the larger one has a voice in his heart, and the small one has his voice in his head.
Turning him around. The incision was made at the back of his head.
The voicebox was just two pieces of plastic snapped together. Without glue.
You can see the pen mark which aligned the pieces.
It had two batteries for some reason?
Sadly, for both cases. Each voicebox was corroded.
Nevertheless, fresh batteries were installed in each.
The incision was stitched closed with ladder stitching to minimize scarring.
The surgery was performed on two syoboons. Both regained their capacity to speak following their respective operations.
However… it is not all good news.
Not long after, small syoboon lost his voice again.
After a second operation. He was simply too corroded.
It seems likely he will never speak again.
His voicebox was removed entirely, and his head was re-stuffed and stitched up.
As of 2025, big syoboon can still speak.
This is what each should sound like:
